BBL

About treatment

Butt enhancement is one of the fastest-growing cosmetic surgeries. The procedure involves a transfer of your own body fat that is injected for more fullness into your buttocks. The combination of liposuction removing body fat from other areas of the body and injecting it into your buttocks means BBL is often referred to as a 2-in-1 procedure. BBL is an attractive option for patients as it is considered a more natural implant option.

Who is this for

  • Patients looking to enhance the appearance of their buttocks

  • Patients looking to improve the symmetry, shape or size of their buttocks

  • Patients who lost their natural shape due to weight loss, child birth or age

  • Patients with excess body fat in other areas of the body

How to prepare

Before undergoing BBL it is encouraged patients maintain a healthy diet and stop smoking. Additionally, patients are recommended they continue their exercise regimes to keep the muscles in the buttocks and upper legs toned. This can help quicken the recovery process.

What to expect during the procedure

The treatment normally takes between 5-6 hours, completed in two parts.

  • First, you will need to be put under general anaesthesia. However, in some cases it may be a local anaesthetic and sedation.
  • The first part of the surgery is liposuction. You will have discussed with your doctor the right location for fat removal. These sites can include your stomach, thighs, arms, love handles, hips or back. The doctor will make small incisions in the area and insert a liposuction cannula to remove the excess fat.
  • Upon removal, the fat must be processed and purified, ready for injection in your buttocks.
  • The second part of the surgery is fat injection. The doctor will make 3 to 5 incisions around the buttocks. Finishing off by injecting the processed fat into the area, sculpting it to make the appearance fuller and shapely.

Taking care after treatment

Whilst tired and groggy, you should be able to leave the clinic the same day of treatment. However, it is recommended you have someone there to support you and help you in the first few days after the procedure.

You will be given a special compression garment that you are encouraged to wear continually for 8 weeks. This will help reduce the swelling, decrease discomfort and help the skin to heal. It is also important to not sit directly on your buttocks for around 8 weeks after surgery. Instead, if you do have to sit patients should use a donut or inflatable pillow. Patients should also alter their sleeping position by sleeping on their back or side for at least 8 weeks.

After one month you can resume light exercise, such as fast-paced walking. Depending on your response to treatment and follow up conversations with your doctor, most patients can resume normal activities and exercise 6 to 8 weeks after surgery.

Be aware of the risks

While there are alternative butt implant procedures, BLL is considered to be the lowest risk. However, as with all surgery, the procedure has some potential side effects:

  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Fluid collection creating lumps under the skin in the injection sites
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

Success

Patents can expect to see the results of the procedure immediately after surgery. However, some of the volume will be due to swelling, so you will need to wait for this to subside in 3 to 6 months to see the final outcome. However, the transfer of fat cells is not a permanent solution. Many fat cells do not survive, meaning the shape of your Brazilian Butt Lift may change over time. The longevity of results depends on each person but can last many months to years.
